One more time, at the risk of turning this into Night of the Living Dead Horse: "A flurry of surveys showed the battle for a Senate majority heading for a photo finish that could focus on Missouri" ain't news.

That's right. It's not.

Nor is Kerry's inability to tell a joke, the Republicans' feeding frenzy over anything that might for a minute distract the electorate from a genuine issue, nor the White House's lack of anything vaguely resembling more of a strategy than "we can only lose by leaving, so if we stay we win." The difference here is the amount of media play things get... not their news value qua news.
