The Imperial Wannabe

"Look, I agree, this is a total violation of -- Our press corps is calling you down, man. I mean, there you are -- no, go ahead.... " - Bush

So, Bush is annoyed that the British press corps dresses sloppily and doesn't stand up when he and Blair enter the room.

The man has delusions of grandeur. And the White House Press Corps enables them.

On the BBC this morning they asked a couple of journalists from other countries what they do when they get briefings from their heads of state.

The idea of standing up when the even the most senior of our politicians comes in the room would quite frankly make journalists laugh out loud. - New Zealand

We do not stand up when the president enters the room. - France (sounding puzzled at the very idea)
But our current president enforces rules of behavior and dress as though he were an anointed king, instead of an elected citizen. I'll bet he wishes the other George W. - you know, Washington - had let people call him "Your Excellency".
