Arrgghh...

Suzanne Pratt (eek, an aptonym!) on Nightly Business Report just said that there was a new center of Europe - a wheatfield in Germany.

What? said I. How can Europe have shifted so far west? What is she talking about?

Turns out, she's talking about the EU, what with the addition of Romania.

Well, fine; the EU has a new geographic center. But the EU isn't Europe. Europe doesn't end at Romania - its eastern border is, and has always been, the Urals. So the center of Europe hasn't moved one whit.

(By the way, she also mentioned "the Ukraine" ... We don't call it "the" Ukraine anymore, Suzanne)
