Look at their names
Re those signing statements: one branch is called the Legislative, the other the Executive.
Guess which one actually makes legislation, and which one carries it out?
If a law is passed and signed, how can the president claim he doesn't have to obey it?
Okay, don't answer that; I know exactly how he can claim it. What I really want to know is why does anybody let him get away with it?!

It's not a question of "anybody", of course — some of us would like not to let him get away with it — it's that the people who could stop him don't: Congress. Nancy Pelosi has explicitly said she would not bring up the issue of impeachment. (And, well, to be fair, I'm sure it's at least partly because she knows she doesn't have the votes to succeed.)
I'll go back to my first blog entry, a year ago: Outrage, and doing something about it. The "signing statement" thing wasn't spoken of then, or I'd have added that one to the list too.
The most disturbing part of it, to me, is that his getting away with it sets a precedent.
