Red and blue... and white
For the last week or so the yard and trees have been full of bluebirds and this morning a bright red cardinal joined them.
That's the word from my father in eastern Tennessee. I haven't seen any bluebirds around here, but I did see a cardinal this morning near the creek - the deeper one that's not quite entirely frozen over. There's ice along the edges of it, and the little creek that runs to the pond is all ice on top, as is the pond itself. Juncos and sparrows and finches make a lot of noise in the dead leaves along the creek in the early morning, and this morning there was a cardinal with them.
