attacking the plan

The American officer on BBC World Update, March 5th, said:
This was definitely an attack on the security plan, because you have the Shi'ite militias saying "You're not stopping the bombs, which are primarily targeting Shi'ites, but you are preventing the Shi'ite militias from protecting the population," so this is very much an attack on the security plan.

An attack on the plan?

14 killed possibly 26 possibly more in that attack, on March 5th. Today, 146 so far in a series of attacks, mostly bombings.

When I started writing this, I was going to be sarcastic - you know, attacking the "plan"? Maybe the Shi'ites feel differently - but now I'm not sure.

I mean, I'm still not convinced that the Sunni insurgents are attacking the plan so much as they are attacking Shi'ites and the Shi'ite government whose election we (the US, I mean) facilitated. But it's pretty clear that the timing of these attacks coincides with the "surge" and with the new "security plan" that mostly consists of making the Shi'ite militias stop operating.

So maybe it is. Maybe the goal is to get the Shi'ite militias operating again, to see just what the president will do if Plan A fails. Since, you know, the plan is for it not to.

If that's the case, I'm afraid we may all find out.
