No, Larry, it's not

On Larry King live (I see watching The Daily Show) Larry asked - in the context of the possible discovery of Jesus' tomb, complete with wife and kids - "Is this the end of the Easter Bunny?"

Jon almost told him that the Easter Bunny isn't real, but then decided that "he's made it this long without finding out, I'm not gonna be the one to tell him."

But I'll tell him.

No, Larry. The Easter Bunny will go on. After all, it doesn't have anything to do with Christianity, not really. It was just coopted from the pagan spring fertility rites that coincide in the season with Easter - heck, the very name "Easter" has nothing to do with Christianity, unlike the holiday's name in most languages (some version of Pascha - as in "the very Pascal lamb"). Eostre was a pagan goddess. Her name and her symbols - rabbits and eggs and flowers - were grafted onto the Christian feast, but they predate it and they will outlast it.

So don't worry, Larry: whatever Cameron's discovery turns out to be, it's not the end of the Easter Bunny.
