Behind that wall
Whoa... synchronicity!
I'm not crazy about Ben Stein's politics, usually, but he's spot on here (close paraphrase because I took it down as he talked; I'll try to find a transcript after work):
The news tells us that a bomb killed 7 Americans in Iraq. The next story is that the Dow closed at a record high, and we see people cheering at the NYSE. That juxtaposition of stories tells us right there what is wrong with this war. America is not fighting this war. America - at least the high end - is celebrating... The military builds the wall that Wall Street and the rich play behind. Celebrating making money while the other guy's kid gets his head blown off in Ramadi is not a pretty picture.
1 Comments:
that's why bush doesn't want to raise taxes for the war. He doesn't want most americans to make sacrifices because no one will think this war is worth sacrifice.
This is actually the whole problem with the military industrial complex. It's designed to make war acceptable by insulating the average citizen from it.
