Good luck to those whales
With absolutely no indication that she was making any connection at all, that's how Katy Kay just closed out the BBC World News tonight - a half hour that had opened with a long segment on Japan's whaling industry.
So if the two whales in the Sacramento river make it out to the Pacific, they may very well end up as steaks in a Japanese restaurant.
Isn't it odd how we (humans) can focus so intently on a couple of individuals and ignore the larger picture?
Katy honestly didn't seem to connect the two stories in her own mind.

That's a great observation. So many people connect to animals on an individual level, yet "blank out" when dealing with a large issue affecting the individuals. On a related note, it looks like those whales may have made it back to the ocean, where I hope they'll be safe.
