Threatens?
Walking past the wall-o-tvs I see that Ahmadinejad "threatens retaliation if Iran is invaded". Coming home, I see it's absolutely everywhere.
Threatens?
Since when is a threat to say "if you invade our country we will hit back"?
Time was, that would have been "promises" or "swears". Possibly even "vows".
I know we don't like the man, but please.

Interesting thing about Ahmadinejad's "threat" is that it has two exclusive and exhaustive conditions and is thus pretty easy to figure out:
1) You attack Iran
2) You don't attack Iran
Compare Cheney's "we won't let you dominate this region" (delivered from a carrier that probably matches Iran in strike aircraft all by itself), which is sort of the moral equivalent of "you look at my girlfriend funny again, I'm gonna punch your lights out."
In honor of A.J. Liebling, who first asked why it was that management always "offers" and labor always "demands," howbout we trade verbs in Mideast stories for a week? Everybody in or friendly with NATO will "threaten," and the natives will all "promise" or "caution."
