Do I Hafta Read It? Well, If I Haf-ta...
One of the announcers for ABC's Open coverage just read the plug for a show I have already forgotten the name of - some kind of America's Next Great Inventor or something like that. Anyway, he read this copy: "Dozens came, only six remain. Your votes will decide whose passion pays off, whose million-dollar dream will be rewarded."
Except his intonation was all wrong. His tone fell sharply on "pays off" and "be rewarded" with a really sharp drop on the last syllable each time. He couldn't have made it sound less exciting if he'd tried.
Funny. Though I expect NBC might not think so.
