Much too little, much too late

Sarah Baxter reports for the Times of London that

"former American secretary of state Colin Powell has revealed that he spent 2½ hours vainly trying to persuade President George W Bush not to invade Iraq. . . .

"'I tried to avoid this war,' Powell said at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado. 'I took him through the consequences of going into an Arab country and becoming the occupiers.'"

Too damn bad the man then joined in and became a cheerleader for the war.

Like George Tenet, Powell is trying to have it both ways. He knew better, oh yes he was smart enough to see the looming disaster; but he never said a word in public. And he kept his job.

Sorry, guys; all this after-the-fact self-exoneration just doesn't cut it.

There is blood on your hands, too.
