In these stones

WMC
So, I'm watching Torchwood. It's set in Cardiff, and the headquarters is underneath the WMC - Welsh Millennium Center. There were several nice long shots around the plaza, of the slate facade of the theater set with the huge windows, shaped like letters, blazing a poem into the night. Written by Gwyneth Lewis, this poem is bilingual and - my favorite thing about it - can be read straight across (if you know Welsh and English) or in two parts:
Creu Gwir In These Stones
Fel Gwydr Horizons
O Ffwrnais Awen Sing
The Welsh means
creating truth
like glass
out of the furnace of poetry
And so this can be
Creating truth in these stones
like glass, horizons
out of the furnace of poetry, sing
as well as the more usual reading
creating truth
like glass
out of the furnace of poetry
in these stones,
horizons
sing
Thanks, Torchwood, for reminding me of this - and showing it to so many more people.
