This is actually quite funny. It's from Mark Steel's most recent column, on the tenth anniversary of Diana's death. Mind you, this is the British meaning of "republican" - meaning, one that supports a republican form of government rather than a monarchy.

Liberal writers described [Diana] as a feminist, and even a Republican, though I remember thinking at the time, seeing as her ambition was for her son to become King, that must put her on the moderate wing of the republican movement.
