My brother speaks:

I'm not sure we've ever done anything in that region that wasn't ass-backwards. At least not since these neo-con "Chicago Boys" have been foisting their myth of "Free Market, Perfect Democratic States" on every country they can. Hell, even Nixon refused to do the things they've done in the name of Democracy. I would doubt that the older folks in Iran have forgotten how we financed the toppling of Mossadegh in '53, sticking them with the Shah until 1979, so he could sell off all their assets to US-led multinational concerns and divest the citizens of their land and rights. The neo-cons would do that again in a heartbeat, if the opportunity presents itself, say, in the guise of saving our 'homeland' from sure nuclear attack. Just as they've done in Iraq, under the premise of WMD's and "terrorist training hotbeds." The end-game is not to win the war, but to carve up the assets in a glut of deregulation and foreign/multinational investment.

These guys have been running this same game since the early 70's, in all corners of the world. If we attack Iran, it's just another profiteering venture. IMO, it's the only thing that fully explains the events.

The formula, to be followed immediately after the Shock and Awe, is as follows:

1. Massive Deregulation
2. Selling off Assets (banks, oil fields, services,etc.) to private companies who run them at a profit
3. Dramatic cuts to Social Programs spending

Hell, it even worked to a large extent in New Orleans! It's the Chicago School / Milton Friedman world view that these old farts dredged up from the Reagan and Bush I regimes have broken out again with amazingly unfortunate success. It makes me sick to my stomach to have had to live through 8 years of this unashamed feeding at the trough, while our international reputation spirals down the toilet.

I could only vote for a Dem this time around, because at least NONE of them would subscribe to this cynical world view that sucks all the wealth upwards, leaving the rest of us to fend for ourselves.
