The Week in Entertainment

Film: Saawariya - I found this movie absolutely charming. The young stars Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor (unrelated to each other, but members of Bollywood dynasties, in their first movie) were beautiful, and Ranbir really made his character believable and sympathetic. Salman Khan was fine in an important but small part, and Rani Mukerji was extremely good as Gulabji the prostitute, who narrated the story (a departure from the source, which would have been narrated by Ranbir (the actor and character shared names). Veteran actresses Zohra Sehgal as Ranbir's surrogate grandmother brought a lot of humor to the movie, which otherwise was a little on the sad side. (Well, it is based on Dostoevsky's White Nights, though Fyodor might not have recognized it.) I really enjoyed it.

TV: Caught part of the Democratic debate, also King Kong, Shrek the Third, a very funny King of the Hill about garden gnomes. DVR'd everything I usually watch since I was out of town.

Read: Not much. Am about halfway through The Sparrow and will probably finish it tomorrow on the plane.
