Rachel's comeliness and ... fertility?

In the Introduction to Rachel Ray, PD Edwards says
"Rachel's given name ... is perhaps also to recall that other biblical Rachel whose comeliness and fertility complemented the dour dutifulness of her sister Leah."
Now Leah may have been short-sighted (Leah's eyes were weak) or not - some translations say her eyes were "lovely" or "soft", and the KJV says, sweetly, "Leah was tender eyed" - but everyone does agree that Rachel was beautiful.

But fertile? That was the whole problem, right? God gave Leah sons because Jacob didn't love her... to the point that Rachel actually made Jacob sleep with her maid to have proxy sons! Leah had six sons. Rachel only had two. (Daughters? C'mon. The Bible almost never mentions daughters.)
Gen 35: 23-24 the sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, then Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Zebulun; the sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin;
So what's this about Rachel's "comeliness and fertility"?

(We won't even go into Leah's "dour dutifulness" ...)
