The Week in Entertainment

TV: Chicken Little which I thought was extremely funny. Oh, there's not much there there, but it made me laugh. I do have some problems with it - Runt's mother looks too big (not just fat, but tall) to fit inside any of the town's buildings; why is the sheep language class called "Mutton"???; why was everyone so pissed off about Chicken Little making out in the ball game? The score was 14-14, so they'd wouldn't have lost. Baseball doesn't have ties. Was their pitcher so bad that they were afraid the other team would pull too far ahead in the top of the 10th? Because they all acted like he'd lost the game... And on a serious level. should Foxy Loxy have been left in her altered state? Maybe she was 'nicer' and Runt liked her, but would she have chosen it? I really doubt it. So that's disturbing. The Man Who Came To Dinner which I have always adored. Pushing Daisies: "I mean, it's a broad generalization, but my guess is an attractive man who makes pies for a living shouldn't spend even a short amount of time in prison." Shrek the Halls: Yes, I watched it. And I have to admit the whole Puss-as-Santa was hysterical, from the candy cane that tastes like crab cakes to the bell on his hat... House: Yay! Thirteen is gone! Yay! Oh. Damn. But yes, Cuddy, how the hell long have you known him? Torchwood: what a way to end the show. You know, Ianto with Jack's coat was heartbreaking. I loved the ending - the Jack-Ianto kiss and the Owen-Jack reconciliation, and I'm glad Rhys isn't dead. And of course the very end is a bit spoiled from having seen the end of Doctor Who's third season: Gwen says "Something's taken him. Jack's gone" but we know: he's taken off chasing the Doctor. Can't wait for Torchwood's next season in January!

Read: The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls - a nice riff on Oz, better for its intended audience I expect, but I liked it well enough. Started Убийство Арабских ночей (The Arabian Nights Murder), a John Dickson Carr translated into Russian. I don't recall reading this one in English, but I might have, decades ago.
