Tree birds in Tennessee

The other day - just before the rain came - there were a few woodpeckers in my father's back yard - well, yard. His house is on top of Black Oak Ridge and west there's nothing but trees all the way down. There was an active little Downy, a lot of scurrying White-breasted Nuthatches, some Titmice, and a Pileated Woodpecker... I messed up the shutter speed, but some of them turned out pretty well.

The view out the living room window - Walden Ridge in the background - on a sunnier day.

Rat-a-tat, rat-a-tat - you can see him almost as far as you can hear him...

His bill an auger is,
His head, a cap and frill.

He laboreth at every tree,--

A worm his utmost goal.
