"In The Service Of Minor Comfort"

If we wonder how this nation got to the point where our own government could practice torture, eavesdrop without warrants, hold people as prisoners without charges, without legal representation, without access to courts, could claim so many powers over us, perhaps we should consider our willingness to accept the idea that people with a certain level of wealth should be free from petty annoyances, and that the police should be used to safeguard this freedom.
