The Week in Entertainment

Film: Iron Man - what fun! Robert Downey Jr is excellent and the movie is extremely engaging. Saw the trailer for the new Hulk and again, he looks so very obviously CGI that it's hard to accept. Sigh. But Iron Man is definitely worth your money.

DVD: Lewis (one series) and Dalziel and Pascoe (two series). Lewis is very well written (when I saw the pilot movie I said "I would totally watch [this] if they made it a series." They have and I am, and it's worthwhile, absolutely), and the D&P's are good adaptations of the novels. Ellie is just as annoying as she is in the books, too. Both are excellent examples of the genre. (I read someone lamenting once "Why are British seasons so short? Why can't we get more than 13 Torchwood episodes?" They don't know how good they've got it with 13. Lewis and D&P both had 3 in their first season, 4 in the second.) Also Stargate SG-1: Ark of Truth, which was a satisfying wrap-up to the Ori-Adria storyline.

TV: Sarah Jane and Doctor Who. Slitheen and Sontarans. Yum. I wonder if the Doctor will have noticed that Sarah Jane went missing from Time for a while? And also, given Martha's pointing out that she doesn't carry a gun, and is trying to make UNIT "better", Captain Jack better hope the Doctor doesn't drop in on Torchwood. I mean, Jack told him he was making Torchwood better for the Doctor's sake, but they do love their guns, don't they? And the Doctor actually worked for UNIT, not just with them a bit... Wouldn't it be cool if Nicholas Courtney made a cameo?

Read: Still reading Vladimir Solovyov's book on Putin - I read Russian more slowly than English, and he keeps saying things that make me stop to think. Also took a break and reread Voltaire's Zadig - look for the Nonbelieving Literati blog-fest on that in two weeks.
