Images of a Maryland Dawn
Sunrise in College Park, the last Wednesday in June
This is Conocybe lactea, a common and fragile mushroom that pops up in lawns, fruits, and dies. It doesn't have a common name, and is regarded as either inedible due to bad taste, or toxic, or both. But this little mushroom leaps up in 'fairy rings' covered in dew and adds beatuy to the dawn.
A squirrel runs across several lengths of phone lines between stands of trees along Maryland 197 just after sunrise.
This tree stands at the corner of 197 and 198 and catches the morning sun in its branches.
