Bush calls for destruction of Iran and North Korea!

Or he would be, if he were a foreign leader being reported on by AP.

Reuters is a little more circumspect, though:
"And my hope is that the "axis of evil" list no longer exists," Bush said [in Seoul]. "That's my hope for the sake of peace. It's my hope for the sake of our children."
Vanish from the pages of history? Wiped from the map? No longer exist? Pretty much the same, isn't it?

Well, now, far be it from me to defend The Bush, but, to be fair, he did say that it's the list he wants to be gone, not the countries. And if you put it back into context, he really did mean that he wants to see them comply with our demands, not be wiped off the map.

For my part, I'd be happy if our president knew how to use the subjunctive mood, which is what goes with "hope". It should be "no longer exist."

Well, that's more or less my point: that AP rips things out of context and makes them what they aren't. What Bush said is no less - and no more - inflammatory than what Ahmadinejad has said.

And give it up on the subjunctive. Verb conjugation is nearly gone in English. ;-)
