One size rarely fits all
Here's the essential part of the message I sent the Dole campaign:
I am appalled at the religious bigotry displayed by the Dole campaign. Merely meeting with people who are atheists or agnostics is "horrifying"? Is Senator Dole unaware that the Constitution prohibits religious testing, and that this country was founded on freedom of religion? And here's the response I just got (emphasis mine):
Thank you for contacting The Elizabeth Dole Committee. Senator Dole appreciates hearing from people regarding issues that are important to them. We will be sure to pass your message along to her. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at anytime (sic). Thanks again for contacting The Elizabeth Dole Committee and may God bless you and your family.I didn't expect that Dole would see this. But I don't think this was even read at all .

I had a similar situation recently. I worte an email to Senator Cornyn of Texas because he was talking about military service members as if they were monolithic in their desire to stay and "win" in Iraq. Since I had selected "War in Iraq" as the topic of my feedback, the canned response from his staff actually contained this line: "The troops say they're more committed than ever to their mission."
Somebody at the Dole camp needs to learn a few synonyms for "contact." On the other hand, they didn't use it where it might have been appropriate:
May God contact you and your family.
To be fair, it looks like you just got their "ack", and, no, no one's really read your message yet. Whether they will or not, and whether their response will please you (or come at all) or not, is yet to be seen.
