Red Berries, Gray Bird

I don't know what kind of berries these are - red and yellow throughout September - but this tree has always also flashed the red and yellow of the blackbirds in spring and summer. In fall, when they're gone, a paler bird moves in, with a sweeter song.

They've cut back the branches something fierce, but the berries and the mockingbirds are still here.

Looks like a pyracantha bush. We had them all over the place in Texas when I was younger (I mean I was younger when I lived in Texas; I'm sure the bushes are still there.). Mockingbirds love them!

I thought about that too, but there are no thorns. Are there thornless Pyracantha?

I don't think it's a pyracantha. The berries don't grow in those tight clumps, and it's more like a tree than a shrub.
