A road to the edge of nowhere...

oh. my.

From the Anchorage Daily News:
Alaska "is continuing to build a road on Gravina Island to an empty beach where the bridge would have gone -- because federal money for the access road, unlike the bridge money, would have otherwise been returned to the federal government."
Yes. You read that right. Despite Palin's statement that she said "No thanks" to the Bridge to Nowhere, she supported it until Congress killed it, and then she kept the federal money. But more than that: She kept right on building the access road, with a price tag of $24 million, because she couldn't hang on to that money and redirect it like she could the money for the bridge proper.

So she's spending millions of federal - i.e. taxpayer money - on a road to nowhere because she couldn't bear to give the money back to the government.

And we're supposed to buy her as an opponent of pork and earmarks?
