It's a whole new world

This morning El Tinklenberg's page over at Act Blue showed him with about $2,500. Shortly after his opponent, Michele "Batshit-crazy" Bachman got finished with her Chris Matthews interview (the one where she said Obama was anti-American and called for an investigation into un-American politicians), it was at $30,000. At 11:00 pm Friday, it was up to $62,000. (And that was with PZ sending people straight to Tinklenberg's site, not Act Blue, so although some of the more is Pharyngulan in origin, most of it isn't.) His own site crashed briefly tonight from the overload, and Act Blue was picking up the slack. It was kind of inspiring just to sit there and hit Refresh every minute and watch the numbers climb... $66,532 at 11:20. I'll have to look again in the morning... (9:30 this morning, $103,722... 9:30 pm today, $233,835. $200,000+ in 24 hours. Just on Act Blue - the campaign says they've received half a million dollars.)

But here's the important part: average donation is $40.

It's like those old folk tales about the bundle of sticks.

Never underestimate the ability of the individual to accomplish things when empowered by information and liberated from limited avenues of action. The Internet has changed a lot of things, and politics is one of them. This is just one example.

Si, se puede. Yes, we can.
