Oriole Nest
I heard the oriole often during the summer, but only occasionally saw them. But now I know where they live.
Yep, that woven basket hanging from the branch is the work of a pair of orioles - or, rather, of the female, though some males help out by bringing bits of stuff to weave into the hammock. The nest is sturdy enough to withstand storms - this one certainly did - and takes around three weeks to complete. Although the female broods alone, the male helps guard, and both parents take on the monumental task of feeding the babies once they hatch.
