A fifty-eight-year-old white Republican congressman from Georgia can say he never heard "uppity" used in a racially derogatory manner.

A white Republican local women's group president in California can claim that she didn't know that watermelon, fried chicken, and spare ribs were racially stereotyped food.

Now, when we get to the point where you can believe what they say, instead of understanding that they know better but thought they could maybe get away with it, we'll almost be there.
