Character, said Lord John Whorfin, is what you do in the dark.

A lot of people are saying that after the election, the "real" John McCain will come back (some even say, wistfully, that they can't wait to see him).

What I want to know is: what evidence is there that this angry, disdainful, underhanded, snuggle-up-to-the-man-who-knifed-him-in-2004, do-anything-it-takes man isn't the real McCain, that the man who coasted on Dad's name and wife's money playing maverick when it got him friends in the media and otherwise supporting the status quo, isn't the play-actor?
