On ice

The creek runs fast - and is deeper than I thought. Ducks float on the surface, after all, but here's a full-grown heron standing in it, and it's clearly not that shallow. It's also not frozen, unlike the pond nearby, that feeds the creek further along than these shots. The heron flew over from the creek to the pond to discover that it was iced over. That didn't deter him, though - I guess he feels he can stab through the ice.

Well, don't tell the dignified heron, but he looks kind of strange standing on the ice. As for the stabbing through for a fish, well...I'd be carefl, don't want to end up on YouTube, big fella!

I looked at the photos and said, "wow". He looks like he doesn't get it. And why would he?
