New Year's Day Birds
Last year the first bird I saw was a crow. This year the day was chock full - and the very first one, too early for a decent photo, was a Carolina wren. The whole list in the order I saw them, with some photos below the list, though I didn't get a good picture (or even any) of all of them:
Carolina wren
song sparrows
crow
towhees - a pair
robin
cardinals - a pair
blue jay
tufted titmouse
mourning doves
wood thrush
white-breasted nuthatch
red-bellied woodpeckers
buzzards (turkey vultures)

Very nice first day -- we only got seven (but that included two woodpecker brands).
