I met Adams once. He was giving a reading of Last Chance to See in a bookstore where I worked. Most of the writers I met came in two varieties, the very nice (sometimes shy) and the self-important jerks. Adams was one of the former.
About halfway through the reading, he abruptly stopped.
"Wait a minute! This is Seattle. Anyone here from Microsoft?"
A few hands went up.
"I want you to stay after the talk. I have some things I want to say to you!"
