The Week in Entertainment
Film: Van Gogh: Brush With Genius (Moi Van Gogh)... It was Imax which is always stunning, but essentially it was pictures of pictures. And for my money, Van Gogh's work doesn't benefit by being so huge and so close. Worst, we'd meant to see the da Vinci exhibit!
DVD: To the Manor Born Silver Anniversary - I always did enjoy this show; Penelope Keith is a very funny lady. Some of the third season of Psych's special features - commentaries on eps and so on. They do good, entertaining commentaries as well as an hilarious program.
TV: Modern Family - I do like this show. It's funny and genuinely touching. Josh Malina is very funny: "Imagine Robert Goulet dressed like Mr Bean playing the Scarecrow in a summer stock production of The Wizard of Oz dedicated to Tony Randall." Yes, that is indeed Lassie, and Psych keeps hitting home runs. (And by the way, how weirdly coincidental that both Psych and The Mentalist featuring a psychiatrist setting up someone for a murder.) The Mentalist was not their best, though I do like the look we got into Cho and Rigsby and their different ways of looking at things. House and OMG Chase killed James Earl Jones! But Taub is gone and stinking Hadley is still here! Numb3rs - this was a tense episode, and some other shows could take a note on weaving the personal stuff into the main story; Larry's journey is as riveting as the crimes. The Happening - oh, what a boring movie that was. If I hadn't seen Knowing recently, I'd call it the worst movie I'd seen all year. At least I didn't pay for it. And speaking of boring, I watched 24 minutes of Stargate: Universe and could not stand one more. And finally, the Discovery Channel's documentary on Discovering Ardi - I thought it was well-done. Seeing the bones in situ was fascinating.
Read: Picking Bones From Ash, an excellent debut novel about mothers and daughters and ghosts.
