The Week in Entertainment

Live: "Hysteria", which is wonderful thought-provoking and entertaining play by the author of "Wittgenstein". It's not nearly that funny, but it's amusing enough (Dali can't help but be); but it's on a more serious topic. At any rate, I definitely recommend it.

TV: Monsters vs. Aliens. Okay, if you're going to have the giant woman's clothes stay the same size when she grows from 5'5" to 50' minus 1 inch, she really ought to end up naked. I loved the president's code name being "Papa Bear", I have to say, and Escargantua... very funny. But overall the movie is amusing, rather than funny, and I doubt I'll watch it again. Modern Family OMG I love this program. It's always pleasant and amusing and suddenly absolutely hilarious - genuinely laugh out loud. The Mentalist - a good puzzle, and Cho and Rigsby were hilarious together. Numb3rs - aaaah. Stephen Gyllenhaal directed (yes, Jake and Maggie's dad). It's his eighth episode and he always makes it watchable. He enhances the story instead of distracting you from it. And the story was good, with just enough Scooby-Doo references for the season but not overwhelming or taking the story too far in the wrong direction.

Read: Mind's Eye by Håkan Nesser. Not bad, but if I add one more Swedish writer to my list it probably won't be him. But Arndaldur Indriðason doesn't disappoint with Artic Chill. The latest by Reginald Hill, Midnight Fugue, looks at one day in Dalziel's recovery... one action-packed day, of course, with a little sting of the kind Hill specializes in. Nocturnes by Kazuo Ishiguro - odd short stories.
