The Week in Entertainment
Film: The Men Who Stare At Goats - I didn't read the book so I can't speak to the quality or depth of the adaptation. The movie as its own thing? Highly enjoyable. Laughed out loud more than a few times.
TV: V has a very promising start. I like it. Some people are complaining that they revealed the Vs as "evil" too early, but really: who didn't know it? Why pretend? Modern Family - so funny. The writing in this is wonderful. (Trying to pin down his kids' chances of being 'best' at something, Phil says "Hayley is pretty. She's so pretty, just gorgeous, so she can meet someone who's the best at something.") And I adored "Fire and Nice" in the parking lot... The Mentalist - the thing is? Jane has corrupted them. Especially Cho. Nice work... Flash Forward - and suddenly it's not predictable at all. Sweet. I will keep watching. Numb3rs - a moody little piece with a nice resolution. Shutter - quite a creepy ghost story.
Read: Three Plays by Noel Coward (Blithe Spirit, Private Lives, Hay Fever). Interesting that the ending of Blithe Spirit is different from the movie. Began Giants from Eternity by Manly Wade Wellman, and am finding it enjoyable so far.

We saw The Men Who Stare At Goats this weekend too. I liked the absurdity of it, which was only made more comical by its roots in reality. I thought Jeff Bridges was excellent at the end as the older, burnt-out version of his character.
He was excellent.
