The Week in Entertainment
Live: UT Lady Vols vs Oklahoma. After a slow start - the Sooners jumped to an early lead - the Vols came back and won by 21, powered by Angie Bjorklund's 5 three pointers! Shekinna Stricklen had the second triple-double in Tennessee history, finishing with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists. Sweet.
Film: Avatar - familiar (very familiar, and in fact probably pernicious) story in a beautiful and unfamiliar place. Note to critic (can't remember where I read it) who was complaining about the military: this wasn't the army, this was Blackwater. And question: why do the Na'vi have four limbs and two eyes, unlike every other animal on the planet?
DVD: The Wackiest Ship in the Army, can't help it, I love that goofy movie.
TV: The Middle, Modern Family, Better Off Ted all still excellent. Scrubs still iffy... Its position in front of Ted will probably earn it a few more watchings, but not if it doesn't pick up. What Darwin Didn't Know, which prompted my father (who's currently making his way through The Greatest Show on Earth, which he got for Christmas, and loving it) to order Endless Forms Most Beautiful. Three Thin Man movies on New Year's Eve before I went to bed. (Men who call their wives "Mommy" bug me.) Bio of Louisa May Alcott.
Read: Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde, which was inventive and intriguing, and I'll certainly pick up the next two, but which was utterly unlike his other novels. Began Chronic City by Jonathan Lethem, which is unlike his others that I've read; so far it's engrossing, but I'm not at all sure where he's taking the story.
