Don't you need a comma after cat in order to avoid a cat priest? Or is that a haiku no-no?

Certainly you would in English. I don't know why the translator didn't put one in, though actually there rarely seems to be commas at the end of lines in these haiku. Perhaps it's a convention of the form.
