Ology, ology, ology!

Neonatal does not mean "newborn study", Alex! She needed to say "neonatology"!

You are not alone in your reaction, Ridger. I said the exact same thing to my husband as we were watching this evening, too!

I see it go the other way more often. People use words with "ology" to refer to the thing being studied rather than the study itself. For example, people talk about the ecology instead of an ecosystem (there are many ecosystems) or simply the environment. I suppose in some (many?) instances the "ology" word has come to mean the thing being studied, so I should probably not complain about that too much.
