Happy Birthday, Johnny
Today in 1904, in a little place called Párdány (now Međa) in Austria-Hungary Johnny Weissmuller (born Johann Peter Weißmüller). He was one of the world's best swimmers in the 1920s, winning five Olympic gold medals and one bronze medal. He won fifty-two US National Championships and set sixty-seven world records. But it was after his swimming career ended that he became the character we all know him as today: Tarzan. He was neither the first nor the last actor to play the role, but he's the iconic one. In later years (who can imagine Tarzan aging?) he played Jungle Jim in movies and television.
