Alas, poor major...

I'm surprised - nobody, not even Joon the so-far unstoppable champion, knew who Major André was!

They all said Benedict Arnold, which at least showed they realized he had to be British, but their faces said they'd never heard of André, not just couldn't remember his name under pressure.

Oh dear!

I guess I'd better revise my opinion. Maybe I've just too much Revolutionary War stuff...

He was Arnold's handler, and being trapped behind enemy lines tried to escape in civilian clothes, for which he was sentenced to death. Everybody loved him - Washington called him an "accomplished man and gallant officer" who was "was more unfortunate than criminal."

Perhaps it has to do with the fact that neither of us was born/raised anywhere near the 13 original colonies, so the American Revolution was pretty much just an abstraction to us when we were in school; ditto for me and the Civil War as well. OTOH, we may know than most folks re our respective home states.
