"Suddenly it's an abomination"

Zeno skewers the argument that the birth control mandate is new and anti-religious-freedom over at Halfway There. A sample of his argument:

The mandate and its supposedly too-narrow religious exemption have been in place in California for nearly a decade. The Golden State's Catholic bishops did not feel it necessary to call down thunderbolts from heaven until the mandate went nationwide with the president's healthcare reform. Now, suddenly, it's an abomination from the pit of hell that threatens our precious religious freedom.
