Happy Birthday, Peter
It's the birthday of Peter Schickele (1935)! A Julliard-trained musician who writes good stuff under his own name, he's probably most famous for his "discovery" of JS Bach's youngest son - the incomparable PDQ Bach, composer of such works as Oedipus Tex, Iphigenia in Brooklyn, The Abduction of Figaro, and innumerable shorter works. I saw Schickele in concert a few years back - it was amazing fun!

On your recent road-trip did you perchance stop by the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople? You must've been close...
He did a wonderful lecture in St. Paul several years back, on comedy in music. I met him in the elevator at the St. Paul Hotel the next morning and had an opportunity to thank him for giving us great pleasure, at that event and through his various musical adventures. My spousal unit got to sing "The Seasonings" once upon a thyme, and the tarragon of virtue (chew-chew-chew-chew) -- is part of our family vocabulary.
