December I said that 2013's astonishing gains in marriage equality wouldn't be repeated. But - thankfully - I seem to have been wrong. The defeat of DOMA did what Scalia warned it would: made marriage bans indefensible. One state after another is having them struck down. Utah, Virginia, and now Arkansas.
Yes, it'll be appealed, and the marriages that will take place next week will be the only ones for a while.
But the tide, as they say, has most definitely turned.
